TROY — Kent Matthes hit his record-setting home run, but it wasn't enough to lift the Alabama baseball team to victory in its first road game of the season.
Troy scored four runs against the Alabama bullpen in the middle innings and held on for a 6-2 win at Riddle-Pace Field on Tuesday night. The loss dropped the Crimson Tide to 5-3 on the season.
The lone bright spot for Alabama was Matthes, who slammed a two-run homer in the first inning. The shot was his seventh of the season over the course of six games, setting a school record for consecutive games with a home run.
Right fielder Michael Precise had three hits and three RBI to lead Troy, which had 11 hits in the game. David Head (0-2) took the loss in relief for Alabama.
Alabama stays on the road this weekend, playing in the Whataburger Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas, beginning on Thursday.
