One former Mark Gottfried player who could have played for Anthony Grant will not.

Yamene Coleman, a 6-foot-10, 236-pound forward, had one more season of eligibility remaining with the Crimson Tide but decided Friday to forego his senior campaign after graduating this spring with a degree in criminal justice. He arrived at Alabama in 2005 and redshirted his first season.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to earn a degree from the University of Alabama while representing the Crimson Tide on the court,” Coleman said in a released statement. “I will definitely cherish the four years of memories, friendships and experiences from Alabama as I move forward to the next step in my life.”

The Boykin native participated in all 32 games last season, averaging 3.7 points and 3.8 rebounds in 17 minutes of action per game. In this three-year career, he played in 81 games.

“We’re happy for Yamene and wish him nothing but success in his future endeavors,” head coach Anthony Grant said in a released statement. “We’re obviously thankful for the time, dedication and commitment he has put into building this program.”

Coleman’s graduation continues a solid trend of Alabama basketball players leaving the university with a degree in hand. In fact, 29 of the last 30 student-athletes who spent four or more years in the program earned degrees.

Gottfried resigned as Alabama’s head coach in January, and Grant was hired as his replacement in March.
