We knew Alabama coach Nick Saban was going to do whatever he needed to do to keep defensive coordinator Kirby Smart.
Georgia offered Smart a blockbuster deal last month to return to his alma mater, and new Tennessee coach Derek Dooley also made a run at him.
But Smart elected to stay put, and he had plenty of incentive to do so. On Tuesday, the Alabama board of trustees approved a new deal for Smart that will pay him $750,000 annually over the next three years, which matches what he was offered at Georgia.
Smart more than doubles his old salary of $360,000, and he'll also receive a $34,400 bonus if he's still at Alabama on March 1.
