Sometimes, as Alabama is proving, it's best to stay off the bandwagon.
In a day and age where more and more colleges and high schools are going to the spread offense and more and more prized quarterbacks seem to seeking out such an offense, Alabama is content to stick with its pro-style offense.
And Alabama is doing just fine, thank you -- both on the field (26-2, one national title over the last two years) and on the recruiting trail as evidenced by the recruitment of one Christian LeMay (Matthews, N.C./Butler).
LeMay, a heavily sought-after ESPNU Watch List prospect and a serious candidate to become the top quarterback prospect in the country this year, recently rattled off six programs when asked about his favorites. The list includes Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Florida and Miami.

"He definitely wants to be a drop-back passer," Newsome said. "He's not into being a spread-option or zone-read quarterback."
As proof of just how coveted LeMay is, Newsome said pretty much the entire Alabama coaching staff is taking part in the recruitment of LeMay. Sal Sunseri, however, is the primary assistant courting LeMay, and Newsome said he speaks with the personable Sunseri about once a week.
"I've known him for a long time and even coached against his oldest son," Newsome said of Sunseri, a former assistant with the NFL's Carolina Panthers. "He's done a great job recruiting Christian. He definitely ...
