The test cramming continues for the Alabama defense.

Auburn’s strength lies with its unconventional offense, and the Crimson Tide defense was busy Tuesday afternoon running through a lot of scheme work in preparation for Friday’s Iron Bowl.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban and defensive coordinator Kirby Smart were both right in the middle of the game-planning, the head coach losing his patience on one occasion during the brief media viewing period when one player failed to properly repeat the repetition he had just executed.

Tuesday’s full-pads workout at the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility was more like a regular Wednesday practice since this week’s game is a day earlier.

“It’s been a bit of a short week, so we’ve had to speed things up,” Alabama defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick said afterwards. “But I feel like we’re really understanding their offense.”

Auburn (7-4 overall, 3-4 SEC) ranks third in the SEC in total offense, fourth in passing offense, third in rushing offense and third in scoring offense.

“They have a really explosive offense,” Deaderick said. “They have some really good backs and are pretty good up front. They are a big, physical bunch with sound blocking. They really try and go downhill with it, so we are going to have to match that physicality up front.”
