CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Alabama put an exclamation point on its three-day stay at the Whataburger Classic on Saturday, pounding out 21 hits in a 16-2 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The Crimson Tide (8-3) scored multiple runs in each of the first five innings to cruise to its third straight win and its seventh in eight games. Alabama led 8-0 after 2 1/2 innings and 15-1 after five.

Kent Matthes led the way with two home runs and five runs batted in, giving him nine homers and 22 RBI on the season. Brandon May added four hits and four runs scored, while Clay Jones had three hits and three RBI.

Freshman left-hander Adam Morgan allowed one earned run in 5 1/3 innings to improve to 2-0 on the year. Nathan Kilcrease, David Head and Jimmy Nelson shut out TAMCC (4-9) over the final 3 2/3 innings.

Alabama returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against Auburn at Montgomery's Riverwalk Stadium.
